Title: The look of the double in the works: the fall of Usher’s house, Edgar Allan Poe and house taken, Julio Cortázar Authors: Joseane Tertulino da, Silva Abstract: This paper addresses the theme of double in the literature, a topic of considerable scope also in other areas. The study seeks to measure to what extent the theme is significant in the existential dualities of the human being. To give theoretical basis to the considerations made here, we use authors who transit through philosophy as Plato, (2002); Edgar Morin (1997), and Clément Rosset (1976); by psychology and psychoanalysis as Otto Rank (1939), Sigmund Freud (1919), Carl Gustav Jung (1999) and by literature as Tzvetan Todorov (1975), and Filipe Furtado (1980). Regarding the typology of doubles, Nicole Fernandez Bravo, (1997,2000) Carl Francis Keppler, (1976) Juan Bargalló, (1994) Yves Pélicier (1995); and Michel Guiomar. The literary corpus of analysis are the works: The Fall the House of Usher (1839), by Edgar Alan Poe, and Casa Tomada, (1951), by Júlio Cortázar, who although published in different centuries, reflect existential human issues linked to the theme of the double.
